IN its 10th year, Art Expo Malaysia is the largest and longest-running art fair in Southeast Asia. Held from Thursday until tomorrow at Matrade Exhibition and Convention Centre, the art fair features 2,000 visual art items including paintings, sculptures, installation and photography by 60 renowned artists from 30 countries.
As the largest delegation, Malaysian galleries will play a vital role in showcasing the works of more than 100 local artists from well established names to emerging talents in the art scene. Participating galleries include some of the country’s most recognised establishments such as Masterpiece Auction, Bank Negara Malaysia Museum and Art Gallery, G13 Gallery, Taksu and many more.
Highlights from the foreign booth include Spain’s ATR Gallery — boasting pieces by Pablo Picasso — and the Embassy Zone where 13 embassies shine a spotlight on one chosen artist from each country.
Art Expo Malaysia was founded by art philanthropist Datuk Vincent Sim with the aim of promoting art to a wider community and to nurture the public’s interest in art. Since its inception in 2007, the art expo is one of the few art fairs in the world that admits visitors without an entry fee.
Art Expo Malaysia is under the royal patronage of the Raja Muda of Perlis Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail and Raja Puan Muda Tuanku Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil who were present at the VIP preview night to officiate the launch.
